Poem: The Little Things

Updated: Dec 22, 2020

Playing video games with you

Is even more fun than traveling to a fancy location

Tasting elegant wines and sampling lavish lifestyles

Partly because I enjoy the little things with you

Playful exchanges as we battle within the game

Laughing as we try to mess the other up

These things were never felt before

The warmth in my chest when I’m with you

The butterflies in my stomach when I hear your voice

The security I feel when I think to myself

All of this is mine

Like with an expensive wine or champagne

I want to savor it.

This rare bond that everyone longs for

A lover

And a best friend

It’s hard to believe that with you,

Nothing can be as calming or as soothing

As feeling your heartbeat echoing through my being;

Spreading like a wildfire throughout my bloodstream.

Something so simple as playing video games

When it’s with you,

Is even more valuable than gold.

Partly because I enjoy your company

Because you make me feel things I’ve never felt before

Because you light up my darkness like the Eiffel Tower illuminates Paris

Or like the skyscrapers of New York City brighten the shadowy streets below.

The little things are what matter most

They are memories

I never want to let go.
